Nearly all of my clients stay in Bayeux. It is ideally located for all the D-Day beaches and sectors and is on the main train line from Paris Saint Lazare to Cherbourg. It is also where I live myself, so is the easiest place for me to meet my groups. My sincere advice if you are not intending to have a car is to check carefully where you are staying. Some B&Bs that appear on travel websites listed as "Bayeux" are in fact miles out of town. The places I recommend in town are within walking distance or a short cab ride from the train station. By staying in Bayeux you will benefit from the many amenities and shops.
